andrea, 27, Boston MA

I have two roommates. We all have busy lives, and barely spend any time in our apartment, so in some ways its very transient, and our bathroom reflects that. It is decorated sparingly, and some of its most defining features are left over from a past roommate. None of us has ever felt the need redecorate in there (perhaps get rid of the teeny tiny bathroom diorama, or giant bowl of giant potpourri?). Probably because we don't pee there that often...

Molly, 26, Astoria NY

Hi.  I'm Molly.  Welcome to my bathroom.

I live in Astoria, NY - although I tell my relatives I live in "New York City" because Astoria is hard to explain and it sounds fancier.  I live with two other girls and we all share this sexy pink bathroom.

We are all starving artists toughing it out with dull day jobs.  One roommate is an aspiring singer/actor who works the reception of a spa all day and the other is a dancer (no, a classy modern dancer, you pervs) who is... currently unemployed.

And then there's me.  To be honest, I haven't quite figured out my life pursuit, but I know it doesn't involve sitting at a desk all day, which is what I do now.  I work a soul-sucking administrative job at a small theatre company / musical theatre conservatory.  I do the payroll, go to the bank, write the company blog, handle ticketing, cater receptions, and a bazillion other things.

I'm trying not to worry so much right now about planning my entire future.  I've taken a bunch of classes at UCB and for now I'm really into comedy stuff.  I perform with an improv group and have been especially jazzed about storytelling and memoir/personal essay writing lately.

I'm fairly new at this whole photography game.  This Nikon, which I bought off of my awesome friend Dave, is the first digital camera I've ever owned.  I've had a number of point-and-shoot film cameras but was always super disappointed with the prints because I had no idea how to set up a shot.  I'm teaching myself with this camera... it's gonna be FUN.

And yeah: the exotic bird shower door is one of the best parts of my entire apartment.

OH HI

Welcome to This Is How We Live. We are Andrea and Molly and we will be your intrepid bloggers on this photographic journey. You may know us from our other Blogger haunts oh lord, run and cukr kazdy den (if you don't, get on that).

We are both sliding into our late twenties. Popular media would like you to believe that this is the time when people get their shit together and start saving up for a house and buying color-coordinated linens. Maybe some people out there are doing that (go, you people), but we certainly aren't. We live with multiple roommates and work shit jobs to pay the rent. But we also make art and stick it on the walls and have dance parties in our kitchens and stay up until 2:30am playing video games. Many of our friends and friends of friends are living the same way.

We also both happen to own Nikon D40 SLRs. So why not bring a slice of real life to the internet in a sharp focus and dazzling aperture? We'll be photographing our friends' lives together and posting here as often as we can. Everyone who is featured here is 25-30 years old. If you would like your place featured, or know someone who would like their place featured, send us a message. For now we're focusing on bathrooms - perhaps the most honest, unfiltered room in a home. From there? Who knows.

This is how we live.
